— THE PIECE —

Some beauty reveals itself quietly.

Last Light is centered around a softly fading piece of Sowbelly Agate Amethyst from the Last Chance Mine in Creede, Colorado — a material once discarded by miners searching for silver over a century ago.

Unlike the deeper purple tones often associated with amethyst, this stone carries only a gentle trace of color. The lavender hue has softened over time through exposure to light, creating a more subtle and atmospheric appearance within the stone.

The flowing teardrop shape and swirling silverwork were designed to mirror that softness and movement — a quieter expression of the material's natural beauty.

Like much of the material found at the Last Chance Mine, Sowbelly Agate Amethyst can contain traces of native silver preserved within the stone itself — a reminder of the silver deposits that originally made the mine valuable.

— THE STORY —

I rockhounded this stone myself at the Last Chance Mine outside Creede, Colorado.

What drew me to this piece was the softness of the amethyst and the way the color seemed to linger gently within the stone rather than dominate it. Knowing that amethyst naturally fades in sunlight made the material feel even more interesting to me — not diminished, just changed over time.

As I shaped and polished the stone, I wanted the silverwork to reflect that same sense of movement and fluidity. The flowing curves surrounding the pendant were designed to feel almost like motion suspended around the stone itself.

The name Last Light felt fitting — both as a quiet nod to the Last Chance Mine and as a reflection of the soft fading tones within the amethyst.

• Cut & finish: Hand-cut teardrop cabochon, high polish
• Pendant & setting: Handmade sterling silver

— THE MAKING —

I rockhounded, cut, shaped, and polished this stone before handmaking the sterling silver setting and flowing silver details around the natural shape of the stone in my studio.

Because each stone from the mine forms differently, no future Last Light necklace will ever look exactly the same. Every piece will carry its own natural color variation, formations, and subtle details.
