— THE PIECE —

Some landscapes reveal more the longer you look at them.

Hidden Horizon is inspired by the layered depth found within this remarkable piece of Sowbelly Agate Amethyst from the Last Chance Mine in Creede, Colorado.

At first glance, the stone resembles a distant landscape — rolling layered formations beneath a soft lavender horizon of amethyst. But looking closer reveals even more depth within the material itself. Transparent crystal-like layers allow glimpses of the stone and traces of silver beneath the surface, creating an almost window-like effect within the natural formations.

Like much of the material found at the Last Chance Mine, this stone was once considered "trash rock" by miners searching for silver over a century ago. What was once discarded now reveals extraordinary depth, detail, and beauty.

— THE STORY —

I rockhounded this stone myself at the Last Chance Mine outside Creede, Colorado.

What drew me to this piece was the sense of depth within the material. The layered agate formations felt almost landscape-like, while the amethyst rising at the top reminded me of a soft purple sky above the horizon.

As I cut and polished the stone, more of the transparent crystalline layers began to emerge, allowing glimpses into the stone itself and revealing subtle traces of silver hidden beneath the surface.

I had originally designed this pendant around a different triangular stone, but the design never felt fully right. The moment I placed this stone into the setting, everything finally came together.

The name Hidden Horizon reflects both the landscape-like formations within the stone and the quiet depth waiting to be discovered beneath the surface.

— THE MAKING —

I rockhounded, cut, shaped, and polished this stone before handmaking the sterling silver setting specifically around the natural landscape-like shape and depth of the material in my studio.

Because each stone from the mine forms differently, no future Hidden Horizon necklace will ever look exactly the same. Every piece will carry its own layered formations, silver markings, and natural depth.
