— THE PIECE —

Some stones are beautiful. This one tells a story.

Heart's Prospect is named for the spirit of discovery — the thrill of finding something extraordinary hidden within rough, unassuming rock.

Sowbelly Agate is found only around Creede, Colorado, making it an incredibly localized material. At the Last Chance Mine, it was once considered "trash rock" and discarded by miners searching for silver over a century ago.

What makes this piece especially remarkable is that the stone still contains dendritic native silver — the very silver that made the mine valuable in the first place. Most people would never realize the dark markings within the stone are real silver preserved in the rock itself.

— THE STORY —

I rockhounded this stone myself at the Last Chance Mine outside Creede, Colorado.

What first caught my attention was the wild lace-like banding moving through the stone alongside the soft purple amethyst formation. As I cut and polished the material by hand, more of the silver within the stone slowly revealed itself.

I shaped the stone into a freeform heart cabochon, allowing the natural patterns and formations within the material to guide the final design.

The name Heart's Prospect felt fitting. In mining, a prospect was a place with promise — somewhere worth searching, exploring, and uncovering.

This piece carries that same spirit of discovery.

— THE MAKING —

I rockhounded, cut, shaped, and polished this stone before handmaking the sterling silver setting and bail specifically for the exact contours of the stone in my studio.

I can create future Heart's Prospect necklaces as made-to-order pieces, but each will use a different stone cut fresh from new rough, and no two will ever be identical.
